Village Presbyterian Church is a New Church Development sponsored by the Presbytery of Los Ranchos. In addition to the Presbytery, we are in partnership with seven other Presbyterian Churches in South Orange County who are committed to seeing a vibrant congregation take root in this community.
Soon after construction began in Ladera Ranch in 1999, a group of Presbyterian pastors and elders began to dream together about the kind of church that would be needed to serve this new community. In contrast to “the way things have always been done,” this group considered a different approach to ministry, one that placed the priority on reaching people and gathering a community of faith, rather than on simply establishing a building and providing programs.
On September 19, 2002, Rev. Steve Wright was commissioned by the Presbytery of Los Ranchos to begin the work of a New Church Development in Ladera Ranch. In October of that year, a small group of neighbors and friends began meeting on Thursday nights at the Wright house for prayer, study and friendship. The name “Village” was chosen for the church because it expressed our hope of creating a place of community for all. Over the next several months this small but faithful group began to dream together about the future of this new congregation. It soon became clear that we needed to set a date for the first public worship service.
Our first service took place on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the Oak Knoll Clubhouse. Throughout our first year, we gathered for worship in many different locations. Our first Christmas Eve and Easter services took place on the Town Green. We even enjoyed an extended season of outdoor worship on the Town Green during the summer of 2004. Through all our wandering, we discovered again and again God’s faithfulness to us.
A new chapter began for this newly forming congregation in September 2004 when, at last, we moved our Sunday morning worship service to the auditorium of the Ladera Ranch School. With his new location, we have been able to create a more visible presence in this community.
If you’re interested in helping us to continue writing this story of God’s faithfulness, come and discover a place to belong among us. Come and experience the love of Jesus Christ. Come and find a home at Village Presbyterian Church.
